Hi - I’m Vicky Strowger.
I believe therapy is where you can be heard and be felt to be heard and seen
Many years ago I made a decision to become a psychotherapist after having a good experience of therapy myself. After an intensive training programme over five years in Transactional Analysis (TA) with a psychotherapy specialty, I am committed to providing psychotherapy and counselling in a safe, confidential and non-judgemental environment in which people can talk about whatever they want; explore their experiences, discuss their problems and difficulties, decide what they want to change, and consider how to cope with what they can’t change.
I have experience in working with people with a wide range of presentations and feel privileged to have worked with many clients on a short term and long term basis depending on their individual needs.
My approach is based on Transactional Analysis (TA). TA originates from Psycho-analysis; it’s clear and easy to understand which in turn helps make complicated processes easier to understand helping the client to feel more empowered. It is suited both to short-term goal-focussed counselling, and longer-term more exploratory psychotherapy. The goal of both of these is not only understanding but also change.
Difficulties in the present are seen to result from decisions made in the past in order to cope with difficult experiences. These coping strategies are no longer helpful and new decisions need to be made which will be more helpful. It is my experience that a warm and supportive therapeutic relationship can give us the safety and space to explore the patterns that we have developed in our life and relationships and although it can’t change the past, it can support us to come to terms with the experiences we have lived and can make a difference to our future.
A large part of my training is based around relationship, relational practitioners work with the conscious and unconscious processes between practitioner and client. Our therapeutic relationship will be built on trust empathy and mutuality, making it an important part of the work. To be truly heard and understood is integral to the therapeutic process; it is through this trusting relationship that healthy and lasting change can occur.
You might be unsure whether you are looking for counselling or psychotherapy, we will work together to identify what the areas of change are in order to ensure the work between us remains focused and your goals are met.
I have an Advanced Diploma in Transactional Analysis with a Psychotherapy specialty.
I am committed to ongoing professional development and as such, I am currently working towards taking my Certified Transactional Analyst (CTA) exam and registration with UKCP.
I take regular supervision with a highly experienced UKCP registered TA supervisor as required by BACP and other regulating bodies
I am a member of the BACP and UKATA and adhere to the ethical frameworks of these organizations
I am fully insured
Therapy works best on a weekly basis. I charge £40.00 per 50 minute session.
When we meet we can discuss the goals of the therapy, the length of the therapy and a regular time that is convenient to us both.
